Spring Break!

My spring break was not fun.  My  poor mom was told last Friday that she would need surgery on her eyes right away.  So Wednesday of this last week she went in for the 4 hour surgery.  The doctor had to break all the bones around her eyes and remove a lot of tissue that had built up as a result of Graves disease.  The doctor at one point used a mallet to break a bone and another time a saw.  I'm sure the saw was high tech but I keep imagining a tiny hack saw.  Anyway it was an exhausting week.  My mom is recovering well.  She looks like she got into a brawl but she is home and getting better.

This is what she looked like coming out of surgery.

Very zombiesque.  The blood trickling from her eyes was actually on both sides.  When I mentioned to the nurse how gruesome my mom looked the nurse said it was worse right after the surgery.  Not only was there blood running from her eyes but it was running from her nose too.  I'm glad I didn't witness that.  I was pretty grossed out by the blood coming from her eyes.  Not the most comforting thing to see on my cute 72 year old mom.

The best part was when they wheeled her down the hall as she was starting to wake up from surgery.  Looking like someone had just taken a bat to her she kept telling us that all she needed was a couple of Tylenol.  She is a tough lady.

This is a day after surgery at home.

Aww I'm sorry your mom went through all of that. I hope she has a speedy recovery.

This 'tough lady' raised some tough cookies herself. I got a headache reading 'mallet' and 'hack saw'. Kiss that sweet Sylvia for me! So glad she's recovering well.
