New Mexico

Rob recently took a trip to New Mexico to speak at schools and do a book signing.  New Mexico is one of our favorite places so I made sure he took a lot of pictures.  This is the old railroad in Chama.  Rob loves trains and urban decay so this made his day.

This is the San Felipe De Neri church in old town New Mexico.

One of Rob's favorite shows is Breaking Bad.  He heard of a candy store in New Mexico (Breaking Bad is filmed in New Mexico) where they sold "the blue".  When he inquired an older woman at the store for the Breaking Bad candy she quickly shushed him and had him come to the counter.  There she secretly slipped him some packages of "the blue".  Rock candy in little zip lock baggies.

When Rob was 19 he went to New Mexico for our church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints).  There he taught anyone who wanted to listen about Jesus Christ.  He served a large part of his mission on Native American reservations and has a huge love for their culture and histories.  This is Hoven Weep at Mesa Verde.  One of the best preserved ruins.

This is the view from his hotel room at Mesa Verde.  Gorgeous!

 Old Town Santa Fe.

The balloon fesitval.  Rob took these pictures from his car while driving to schools to speak.

The Hopi mesa.  Rob got this picture on line.  You are not allowed to take pictures on the mesa.  This is where a group of Hopi live and they are very private.Rob went up the mesa and bought some beautiful native american crafts.  One was a kachina doll carved and painted by a man living on the mesa.  It is the White Chin Harvest doll and is supposed to bring rain and a good harvest.

More old town New Mexico.   Rob spent the last day searching for green chilies.  We try and get a stash of roasted chilies whenever we go to New Mexico.  He got there a little late for chili season but was able to find a store still selling.  We are stocked up on our green chili.

 More balloons from the car.

This is the little church Rob stopped to take a picture of the last day and fell off the second ledge onto the cement.  He was sore for a few days.

Driving off into the sunset. Here is a link to Rob's blog about the trip
